Training Programs
CALMC training is custom-designed in partnership with organizations to build collaborative initiatives that encourage innovation and flexibility to meet changing demands and global competition. Our training is activity-based in order to provide hands-on experience in the tools and techniques that will enhance your organization and meet the learning styles of all participants. This better enables them to take the skills they have learned in training and be able to apply them in your workplace.
Some of the types of training we offer are:
Building Effective Committees and Teams
Leadership and Supervisory Skills
Building Effective Committees and Teams
Effective teamwork is vital to the identification of problems and development of solution. Teams enable an organization to utilize the experience and knowledge of the workforce to find and implement effective solutions.
General topics include:
Teams must also have a clear purpose for their existence and mutually-agreed upon goals.
Other topics relevant to your organization, from a basic introduction to advanced techniques, can be integrated into the training.
Contact us for more information about how we can work with your organization.
Our goal is to train, facilitate, and support effective teams, skilled in proactively solving workplace problems. In these teams, each member participates toward the betterment of their jobs and the organization.
Among the training programs offered by CALMC for teams are::
Leadership and Supervisory Skills
Effective leadership (both
management and employee) is required for effective employee involvement
programs. CALMC training can help provide the skills
necessary to be a leader in today's environment.
We emphasize
the need for leaders to use a participative style in order to involve employees.
An understanding of group dynamics and team development enables leaders to
motivate their teams to achieve higher levels of performance.
Effective coaching
and communications help build better performing workplaces that are more
adaptive to meet the needs of a changing environment.
Bringing about lasting change in your organization requires an analysis of your
work system. Effective problem solving and decision making skills can provide
the tools to create systemic change.
CALMC will
work with you to design a program based on your needs and your personnel. Some
of the topics we offer are:
Leadership
and Management Development
Supervisor and Steward Training CALMC also provides coaching for
leaders as they make the transition to a cooperative environment.
The need to look at new ways of doing things
has never been more important as we face extraordinary pressures. Instead of
business as usual, we have to react at unprecedented speed to confront sudden
economic changes and adapt quickly to new demands in order to remain viable.
For change to be effective, everyone in your organization has to be a part of the change process, understand
why change is necessary, and get assistance in dealing with its impact. This
will also help to reduce resistance to change.
Whether the change is the result of internal dynamics or outside forces, a
planned change process is vital. We've all seen it happen. Someone in
an organization decides on a needed change or a solution to a problem. Soon,
the change has disappeared, and things are back to "normal". The same old
problems recur, often worse than before. This situation occurs when changes
are made without considering how they impact the entire work system.
No real organizational change is possible without making changes in the work
system. Systemic change takes effort, but without it we are only tampering, and changes will be ineffective or disappear completely.
People drive change, and are the key to making any real
difference in the workplace.
CALMC can help provide the tools essential to study your system, make effective change,
and help everyone adapt to workplace changes. These include topics such as:
Effective problem solving
requires planned strategies and specific tools. Without them, groups tend
to flounder and frustrate themselves with their inability to make progress.
CALMC can help you establish an
effective problem solving process, beginning with basic techniques to
identify the root causes of problems in your work system.
We work through a
variety of problem solving tools and techniques selected based on your specific needs in order to
study, plan, implement, and evaluate solutions.
CALMC can help your teams
effectively identify and solve problems through
training such as:
CALMC offers a workplace safety
process called Safety Always. This process involves employees in
identifying and resolving workplace safety issues in a proactive manner.
Safety Always has been proven effective in significantly reducing workplace injuries
and sustaining this improvement over the long term.
For more information about the
process, visit our Safety Always
page.
Conflict can happen in any group or organization. Effective organizations
have a process that effectively resolves conflict. CALMC can help your
organization develop and implement an effective process for dispute
resolution that can save you time and money and improve morale.
The traditional negotiations
process can be very time-consuming, frustrating, and a waste of resources.
It often permanently damages relationships and places undue stress on the
organization, union, and all participants.
Interest-based bargaining has been shown to be
more effective in resolving
labor-management issues in a positive manner for both parties. Whether its
called interest-based bargaining, principled negotiations, or "win-win",
this type of bargaining done by trained and facilitated bargaining teams
produces better results, usually more quickly than the traditional process.
CALMC provides training and
facilitation in the interest-based process for bargaining teams. We work to establish a bargaining process
that enhances the
labor-management relationship, not tear it down.
Prior to bargaining, CALMC provides training for all employees on the bargaining process. This will
enable employees to better understand the process and know what to expect
will happen during the bargaining process.
Once bargaining is complete,
CALMC provides training in Contract Interpretation and Administration for
supervisors and stewards, so each understands the contract and are prepared
to enforce it effectively. By participating in joint training, supervisors and
stewards hear the same message and interpretations, minimizing
misunderstandings and potential conflict during the term of the contract.
It's often said the best way to kill any
idea is to send it to a committee. Effective facilitators prevent this from
happening.
In order to be effective, teams need effective facilitation.
Good facilitators help keep the team on task, introduce tools and
techniques to move them forward, and sustain the group by focusing on
effective process, not on the content of the discussion.
CALMC can provide Facilitator Training to
members of your organization. They will be trained in effective procedures
to assist in any type of meeting your organization holds, from the smallest
committee to larger groups.
Facilitation adds value to your organization by helping get
the most our of your meetings. As we all spend more time in meetings,
facilitators can help keep meetings effective and productive.
The list on this page is by no
means inclusive of all the types of training CALMC can provide. We will work
with you and your organization to determine your training needs and develop
a process that will meet your unique circumstances. CALMC will deliver
training in your facility or in your community on a schedule that meets your
needs. CALMC is also
part of the Ohio Labor-Management Cooperation Program, a network of trained
and experienced labor-management professionals that we can draw from to
bring their individual expertise to meet your organizational needs.
